LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Katsuya Uechi, the famed grasp sushi chef behind Los Angeles’ Katsuya eating places, has died. He was 67.
His restaurant group introduced his loss of life in an Instagram submit late Thursday, however no trigger was given.
“Katsu-San helped form the Los Angeles sushi panorama and past, making Katsuya a family identify. At the moment, we honor his life and legacy by proudly carrying ahead the imaginative and prescient he spent a lifetime perfecting,” the submit learn.
“Our hearts are along with his family members and all who have been lucky to know him… Relaxation in peace, Chef. Your legacy lives on in each visitor we welcome and each dish we serve.”
Uechi’s most well-known dish was the long-lasting Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice.
He opened Sushi Katsu-ya in Studio Metropolis again in 1997 and expanded his restaurant empire from there, together with areas in Brentwood and Hollywood.
